I stepped into the grass barefoot, wearing a pair of shorts and a hooded sweatshirt. It was a cool summer evening, with the ocean breeze making it a little cooler than usual. This weather was my favorite, with the sun beginning to set, creating a colorful phenomenon in the sky. I made my way towards the volleyball courts, humming quietly.

[Harper Ford]

"Set, set!" Troy hollered at me as I situated myself under the volleyball, pushing the ball high up and setting Troy up for the spike. It shot down between two diving campers from the Hermes cabin, and I reached over and gave Troy a low-five. The team on the other side of the net collected the ball, rolling it back under the net to us. I picked up the ball and turned to head to the back of the courts when I saw Mike heading our way.
"Mike!" I yelled, standing on my toes and waving.

"Hey!" I smiled, waving. "Can I join?" I asked, noticing the uneven teams.

[Harper Ford]

"Can you keep up?" Troy said flatly, raising an eyebrow at my friend.
I ignored him, "Yeah, it's fine, Mike. You wanna serve?"

[Mike Pearson]

"I can't serve," I told her. "I'll play up, though," I volunteered, taking a spot closer to the net. I could spike like nobody's business.

[Harper Ford]

Troy gave me a knowing look, and I tossed the ball to him as he took my spot off of the court.
He tossed the ball into the air and served it hard... into the back of Mike's head.
"Troy!" I yelled, clapping my hand over my mouth.
He suppressed a smile, "Whoops."

[Mike Pearson]

I turned, a look of hatred on my face. "You wanna try hitting it over the net, Troy?" I asked him.

[Harper Ford]

"It would've gone over if your big head wasn't in the way," he fired back while I passed the ball to the team across the net.
"Boys, boys, boys," I said defensively. "Come on, let's work together."

[Mike Pearson]

I grunted, turning back to the other time and waited for the serve. It came up, and I moved back to hit it back over the net.

[Harper Ford]

I set myself up to bump the ball back to Troy, and then he set it high above where Mike was.
"Spike!" I hollered to Mike, pointing to the ball as if I could spike it with The Force or something.

[Mike Pearson]

I crouched, and waited. As it came down, I jumped up, hitting it hard with the base of my palm and sending it hard over the net into the sand. "Our serve," I said.

[Harper Ford]

"Nice!" I approved, holding out a hand for a high-five. Troy received the ball, tossing it around on his fingertips before serving it over the net as if it were effortless.

[Mike Pearson]

I sat down in the sand, the Hermes kids having left because they were tired of losing. I played with the sand in my fingers, letting it fall through my fingers back into the court. "We kick ass," I said to the two Dionysus kids.

[Harper Ford]

Troy ignored him, turning to me, "I'm going to go to the cabin, be back before I call lights out."
He stepped out of the sand, wandering towards the cabin's slowly.
I sat down in the sand, burying my toes in it.
"We do kick ass," I said, rubbing my palms over the sand to smooth its surface. My knuckles were gnashed and bloody, scrapes against my forearms and the back of my wrist's from our earlier quarrel with Jason from Ares Cabin.

[Mike Pearson]

I winced, spotting her hands. "I heard what happened," I told her. "Are you okay?" I asked seriously.

[Harper Ford]

I shrugged lamely, keeping my eyes down. I didn't want to look at him.
"It was stupid of me to go after him," I replied. "I still don't know why I did it. He's easily three times my size."

[Mike Pearson]

"But you outwitted him," I told her. "That's what Trevor said, at least."

[Harper Ford]

"What did I do to outwit him?" I prompted curiously. "He pummeled me."

[Mike Pearson]

"He said you lasted longer than he thought you would, than most do," I shrugged. "That sounds like an accomplishment."

[Harper Ford]

I chewed on my lower lip, a small blush coming to my cheeks. I was never sure how to take compliments like that.
"I mean, I don't know. I got help, in the end," I admitted.

[Mike Pearson]

"He got really pissed," I grinned. "It's good to see him lose. He's too cocky. He's annoying."

[Harper Ford]

I smiled, pushing sand around with the back of my hand, "I would've liked to swipe his head off. He tore up Troy's shoulder with that damn spear."

[Mike Pearson]

"We can get him next Capture the Flag. Even if we're teamed with Ares," I grinned, even though I was serious.

[Harper Ford]

"You would do that for me?" I prompted curiously, picking up a handful of sand and dropping it onto the back of his hand. I moved more sand onto it, burying it entirely.
